Creating Opportunities to Practice Cross-Cultural Interaction
Airs Every Sunday from 9pm – 10:30pm on WOLT 103.3
Our Radio is an opportunity for young people (Ages 14-19) from diverse backgrounds to participate in a weekly radio broadcast targeting listeners of all ages. The program will offer participants an opportunity to work through challenges of cross-cultural differences while gaining the practical experience of implementing a weekly radio program. Although they will have a great deal of autonomy regarding program content, the program must meet the parameters of integrating cross-cultural and diversity issues.
To encourage cross-cultural understanding among youth in the Upstate of South Carolina;
To create opportunities for youth to practice equality in cross-cultural interactions within a project-based context;
To facilitate the connection between diversity related didactic instruction and “real-world” situations;
To enhance leadership, team dynamics, negotiation and conflict-resolution skills among participants.
By the end of this program, participants will have:
Taken part in various class discussions and experimental learning activities in the area of cross-cultural relations and diversity;
Produced a weekly radio broadcast for six months;
Written a reflection paper related to their experiences in the program.
