Emphasis on youth education and participation is central to Beyond Difference’s mission. Following the establishment of the “Greenville Youth Cross Cultural Leadership Council,” students between the ages of 14-18 are participating in two programs, Our Radio and We Teach. Future youth programs will be developed under the project Access, whose cornerstone will be a 25,000 sq ft facility specifically tailored to its programs. In addition to housing the Beyond Differences staff, the facility will provide a youth activities center as well as classrooms for tutoring and teaching.
Beyond Differences targets mainstream teenagers who are not “at risk” (i.e., not school dropouts, gang members, substance abusers, single teen parents, etc.). The goal is to provide positive social and academic programs designed not only to reach high school graduation but also to continue on to college and beyond.
