We invite everyone to join us in a week of activities that encourage reaching out to others in the spirit of commonality rather than difference.
A Day of Sharing
We believe that changing attitudes about race and culture won’t happen through massive community or governmental campaigns, but rather by individuals reaching out and sharing with others. On this day, we encourage people to share something of importance from their culture with a person of another race, culture, religion and ethnicity. Like a poem, a book, or an object that represents something unique and special about your culture.
Unity Day At The Drive
Take someone of a different race or ethnicity to the Greenville Drive baseball game.
A Day of Visitation
We believe that diversity is more than just precepts and concepts. To be the component of change requires action. When we move out from our comfortable and protective surroundings, we become the builders. On this day, we encourage you to leave your home and visit someone of a different race, culture, religion, and ethnicity in your community.
A Day of Understanding
The Bridge of Unity is Built by Us must have the support of the local church. On this day, we are asking churches to share an evening of worship together.
One place of worship will sponsor a Wednesday night get-together with another place of worship of difference race, religion, culture or ethnicity.
A Day of Learning
The Horizon “Speakers” Series Luncheon features guest speaker, Dr. Keith Miller, President of Greenville Technical College. The theme this year is “A New Dialogue in Reaching Our Full Potential: Inclusiveness.” The event will be held at the Hilton Inn at 12:00pm.
Share A Table Day
Take another person of a different race, culture, and ethnicity to your favorite restaurant for lunch or dinner.
The Merl Code Invitational Tennis Tournament is the first three-day tennis tournament promoting cross-cultural relations, dialogue, unity, and diversity among local corporations, public entities and non-profits. Part of Beyond Differences youth initiative – The Bridge of Unity Is Built By Us – the tournament requires each team to assemble a non-playing diversity team. This unique and fun event continues to grow each year and has received high praise from both participants and sponsors.
